Practice Disclosure Statement
Practice Disclosure Statement
This practice is owned and operated by a licensed Independent Practice Dental Hygienist (IPDH) in the State of Maine.
In accordance with Maine law, specifically Title 32, Maine Revised Statutes, Section 18371–18377, dental hygienists who meet specific education, training, and experience requirements may be licensed as Independent Practice Dental Hygienists. This authorization allows qualified dental hygienists to practice without the supervision of a dentist. Independent Practice Dental Hygiene was established in Maine in 2008, making Maine one of the first states to allow this model of care.
Under this authority, an Independent Practice Dental Hygienist may provide certain preventive oral health services, including but not limited to oral health assessments, dental cleanings, non-surgical periodontal therapy and periodontal maintenance, fluoride treatments, sealants, radiographs, and patient education.
This practice does not employ or have a dentist on site. The services provided are limited to those within the scope of practice for an Independent Practice Dental Hygienist under Maine law.
Patients are strongly encouraged to maintain an ongoing relationship with a licensed dentist for comprehensive dental examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and restorative or surgical dental care. If conditions are identified that require the services of a dentist or other healthcare provider, appropriate referrals will be made.
By receiving services at this practice, you acknowledge and understand the nature, scope, and limitations of care provided by an Independent Practice Dental Hygienist as defined by Maine law.
If you have any questions regarding the services offered or your oral health needs, please feel free to ask.
